The PTBC Tour introduced a new event to its collection for 2015, along with a new venue. Grantham Bowl played host to the team fives event, part of the BTBA Tour. Eleven teams entered into the event, which was the almost perfect number in the 12 lane centre. Ladies earned a 5-pin bonus per game, and we saw 2 all-female teams take part.
Qualifying consisted of six games, split over two blocks of three games with a lane re-dress in the middle. Scores were on the high side, with Myles Duke taking advantage to roll an 803 series in the first three games. However, Team England Men A finished qualifying in top position with 6682 pins (223 average), with Xtreme Revolutions, Powerplay Boys and The Da Da Dillio's joining them in the top four places for the matchplay final.
Semi Final ...
Team England Men A faced The Da Da Dillio's, whilst Xtreme Revolutions faced the Powerplay Boys. Attentions from the supporters were entered on lanes 5 & 6 with the Team England vs Dillio's match, which was both the highest scoring match of the day, and running slightly ahead of the other match on lanes 1 & 2. Team England eventually winning 1208 to 1194.
As that match finished, attentions turned to Xtreme vs Powerplay Boys, and though not as high scoring it could not have been much closer in the end with Powerplay Boys winning by two pins, 1007 to 1005.
So, Team England Men A took on Powerplay Boys in the final. This time, the Powerplay Boys picked up the scoring pace and although there were more spares than strikes through the first 4 frames for both teams, a strikeouts ensued from then onwards, with the Team England Men just pipped on carry by Powerplay Boys in the end 1165 to 1110.
Overall, a very successful day, owed to our support from Kegel, Bowltech UK and Grantham Bowl.
